"Veteran writer Warren Ellis and relative newcomer artist DJ Keawekane bring us a series decades in the making!"

A drawing of Iceman(with Beast) from a Spy6teen article on artist Keawekane, a character he's going to be drawing a lot more of real soon.
Joseph Hughes: Why Iceman and why now?
Warren Ellis: Well, the initial story, the germ of it anyway, has been sitting in a file at Marvel for a decade-and-a-half gathering dust. Apparently someone found it, maybe used it to kill a fly or something, and thought hey, what's this?
Hughes: Seriously?
Ellis: Absolutely! My initial proposal was part of the Counter-X line of books I was working on in 2000, with Whilce Portacio attached as artist, something I recall Whilce viewing as something of a homecoming given his past association with the character, until Marvel moved him to the X-Force title for the relaunch. Suddenly the proposed Iceman book was without an artist and Marvel felt the line of Counter-X titles was wide enough, so the proposal was shelved.
Hughes: Until now?
Ellis: Right. Obviously some things had to be reworked. Drake's powers for one, his control over them has improved dramatically in the intervening years. His appearance is even different.
Hughes: Sounds like a perfect segue to artist DJ Keawekane. How was it, doing this book with a writer of Warren's caliber, with a character you have unabashedly showed your love for many times over the years?
Keawekane: I'm still pinching myself. It doesn't seem real.
Hughes: What can either of you tell us about the series? Characters besides Iceman? Any familiar faces? What kind of stories can we look forward to?
Ellis: Well, the first arc, we touch upon the Eve of Man event in Liverpool in 1825, which of course brings Iceman into conflict with the Ute Guard, and their leader the fire-wielder Sammael, who will be the main villain for the first year. Beyond that we have a two issue tale with Marvel's Golden Age version of Iceman, Jack Frost, called The Fracturing, which will set some ripples in motion for things down the line.
Keawekane: The Juggernaut! I got to draw him last night. I filled the whole page and had his shoulders scrunched under the top of the page's border. You can feel the Juggernaut straining against the page itself.
Ellis: ...Threatening to break through...
Hughes: From where? To where?
Ellis: By the book, peasants! I've got to keep myself in Kippers somehow!
Hughes: Haha! Anything else you want to share with us?
Ellis: Buy War Bonds! That's not a throw away. Eagle-eyed readers will know by that that something BIG is coming!
Hughes: Well, we have to leave it with that, and remember to check out the Iceman ongoing this summer from Marvel Comics, available at your fine local
