Ssooo, here's what's blowing up the internet right now.
YouTube star Diversity and Comics a short time ago started an IndieGoGo campaign to fund a comic graphic novel he created called Jawbreakers, featuring "A team of ex-superheroes attempt to save a "monster" from a vicious warlord who wants to exploit it!" It reached it's initial goal of $45,000 in just a matter of hours, and at the campaign's end on May 10th that amount had swelled to $225,120. Almost a quarter of a million dollars.
It wasn't surprising given that level of support and interest that a publisher would likewise be interested in making it available to a wider audience. Enter Antarctic Press, one of the few publishers willing to publish pro-Trump and pro-Conservative comics and even employing openly conservative creators, who announced that they would be publishing Jawbreakers and bringing it to local comic shops across the country.
A group of retailers trying to get other retailers to mass-boycott the book took a turn when industry pro and Marvel comics employee Mark Waid lead a group of Industry 'pros' to essentially bully the man who runs Antarctic Press into not publishing the comic.
Exaggerated, misleading and false claims...coupled with systemic intimidation, threats, and coercion...carried out against the publisher over a period of about 36 hours lead to this...
Which lead to this being posted on 4chan and Reddit among to her places...
No evidence that any of that is true, other than Waid deleted all of his social media, something Waid has done before after public meltdowns and engaging in behavior of questionable sanity and legality.
This time however Waid not only opened himself up to potential legal action, he opened up Marvel to legal action. He used his status as not only a Marvel employee but one of some status to pressure a competitor of Marvel's into not releasing a competing product. There are Federal Anti-Trust laws designed to prevent things just like that from happening.
Sad. I can't believe I use to like and even respect Mark Waid a few decades back.
