Cable joins the ResurrXion!
I've been a fan of Cable since he first appeared in X-Force back in the day. Became even more of a fan after it was revealed he was Scott and Jean's kid. Literally, the more that has been revealed of his history and the more he has been developed, the more I have liked him.
I have gotten EVERY issue of EVERY solo(and paired with Deadpool) ongoing.
I am a big fan of writer James Robison. His incredible run on DC's Starman was one of the things that got me back into reading DC years ago, and helped restore the popularity of the JSA(something I also love).
I've been a fan of Carlos Pacheco since he did the last two issues of the Fantastic Four during the Onslaught Saga, and managed to work in his favorite X-Man(Iceman) and favorite Avenger(Hawkeye) as guest stars. He later did the 'Zero Tolerance' arc in X-Men featuring Iceman, with writer Scott Lobdell, which cemented me as a fan. He's been a deciding factor on me getting a title ever since.
So I was primed for the series.
And soooo disappointed.
Synopsis: Cable is tracking a foe across time. The foe is looking for something, and arming locals with hi-tech weapons to slow down(or end) Cable's pursuit. First in the American Old West, then Medieval Japan. The issue ends with Cable getting his metal arm chopped off by an energy sword.
My Take: I hate the term 'nothingburger', but that's what this was. A bunch of nothing. I haven't felt like this since I ordered a fast-food chicken sandwich, got home and unwrapped two slices of bread. There was no steak and almost no sizzle.
The good: The art, which was good/great. And Cable was written in a way that looked, sounded and acted like Cable.
The Bad: Everything else. There was NO story. This would have been a weak setup for an arc in an established series. For a first issue? Blah. A little mystery is a good thing to interest readers to buy further issues, but there was nothing there to interest me at all. I don't care about anything that happened in this issue at all.
I've got the first few issues ordered, so it has some chance to improve, but if it doesn't get dramatically better fast, I'm gone.
I'd say the ResurrXion is not going all that well.
