Warning, possible spoilers ahead if you haven't seen recent episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as well as for Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.

From the beginning, AoS has struggled to find it's groove, with complaints about actors and casting to the writing to the special effects; and diehard Marvel loyalists have been hanging in, waiting and hoping for the bugs to be worked out. Turns out some of those 'bugs' were not actual problems, but signs of subterfuge having to wait for the CA:TWS movie's release to come to light, and recent revelations will probably make you want to watch some of those earlier episodes again in a new light.
The turnaround started last week in the episode appropriately named "Turn, Turn, Turn" and continued this week with "Providence". As anyone who saw CA:TWS in theaters knows, S.H.I.E.L.D. was infiltrated wholesale by HYDRA. The mysterious villain pulling the strings on AoS of late known only as 'the Clairvoyant', was revealed as not only not psychic, but a high ranking S.H.I.E.L.D.(and secretly Hydra)Agent (Played by Bill Paxton), using information gained from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s own databases against them.
The bigger surprise was Agent Ward(Brett Dalton) being revealed as a Hydra Agent, and a lot of the things fans have complain about regarding his character...The woodenness? The hero straight out of central casting? Intentional, as that version of Ward was an act, designed to manipulate and confuse and facilitate infiltration onto Coulson's team. Everything, from his behavior to his likes and dislikes, his way of speaking to his seeming initial reluctance to join the group, to even sleeping with May, all part of the plan.
Is AoS perfect now? No. But the last two episodes have been such a drastic improvement it's like watching a brand new show. Hell, they're even now writing May like a three-dimensional person with emotions other than irritated/pissed off.
More details and spoiler stuff about the last two episodes at the links below. And if you're lapsed on AoS, it might be worth another look.
