I know Bendis being in charge would probably be the quickest way for me to drop the whole line. I don't care for his lackadaisical attitude towards continuity, characterization or plots that actually make sense and don't have huge, gaping plot holes. It's bad enough that BOTA brought the entire line down by trying to justify the O5 -- his plot -- when it couldn't be justified and that he's been allowed to regress the line back to God Loves, Man Kills, rendering his UXM a hinge book and the JGS of Schism, that is based on post-Morrison days of a Marvel universe where the X-Men are public and working with the authorities, as a square peg in a round hole. BMB, in essence, wants to play in a sandbox -- his own. That's what he excels at as shown by Ultimate Spiderman -- rewrites of iconic characters and the ability to do his own thing. What causes problems is when his stuff dictates how everyone else gets to play. An editor is there to prevent that sort of thing and make sure the creators on the line work together to tell the best possible stories coherently, not let one writer decide it.
Claremont wanted to do a reunion scene between Nightcrawler and Kitty. However, he made the mistake of referring to Kitty joining the revolution as a violation of her character. Considering he created her and did her most pivotal development, I rather agree with him. Now Bendis apparently threw a little fit, again judging by CC interviews where he talks about getting in trouble for "rocking the boat" and Bendis will be writing the reunion scene. Apparently CC doesn't get to tell Bendis that he's not allowed to violate the character he's writing -- Nightcrawler. Should be interesting to see how this pans out. I expect Bendis to use the opportunity to throw more justification at either the O5's continuing presence or the "revolution".
I don't see how BotA "brought the line down" - it was a weak crossover that lasted two months and has had minimal repercussions other than Kitty no longer being at the JGS. Also, I don't see how it's fair to blame Bendis for BotA in the first place. It was Jason Aaron's idea. The O5 could've been justified by saying that Beast wasn't in his right mind when he brought them to the present, and everyone could've left it up to Bendis to justify why they remained.
I also strongly disagree with him regressing the X-Men. His UXM showed pro-mutant rallies. An issue of ANXM had Scott and Bobby meet and flirt with some girls who were amazed at them being mutants. Actually, the years between Decimation and AvX were the ones that had humans all hating mutants. The JGS books have chosen to completely ignore humans as a whole. Bendis has shown both sides - he's shown that there's been progress, and that there's still more to be done.
Just because Claremont created Kitty doesn't mean he gets to permanently define her. She is not the character now that she was 30 years ago. Even then, it's not like she actually agrees with what Scott's doing, she simply resents the JGS not backing her up when it comes to the O5. Adult Scott was willing to fight for their right to self-determinate, the JGS wanted to determine their fates for them. I think it's actually pretty reasonable for Kitty to be on the side of the O5, wanting to give them the chance to decide for themselves what to do. And again, if Claremont's plans for the reunion were going to have him soapbox about his disagreement with Bendis' direction, then it is entirely valid not to allow that. I honestly have more trust in Bendis not to pull something like that. I have more trust in Bendis to treat both sides as valid. Claremont might be fair, but I think there's also a greater chance of him basically sermonizing about it.
