I was so conflicted over Billy Russo, he became like Joe on the Following for me. I know he's technically the bad guy, but... It wasn't until he killed a certain agent that I was like, nope, I can't root for you.

For Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones...it helps that I was already a fan of the characters from the comics. Luke and Danny since from when I was a kid and Jessica since her first appearance years ago. I'm also a fan of several of the actors from other things, so that helps, too.

I think most of the Marvel Netflix shows would all benefit from being ten episodes like the upcoming Iron Fist season 2. Even as a fan of the characters and the actors it was sometimes a chore to watch. Only exceptions to that for me were Punisher and Daredevil. I was going to suggest if you like the Marvel Netflix shows you might want to checkout Marvel's Cloak and Dagger. I, on the whole, enjoyed it's first season...but IMHO it is a tougher watch than the three you couldn't stay interested in, so probably not your cup of tea.

If you are curious...Season one of C & D is a lot like the first season of Smallville to me, more grounded in the real lives of the characters than straight-up super-heroics. One of the characters is a cop who just left Harlem and is friends with Misty Knight, something that has been mentioned on both C & D and Luke Cage, so there is a clear attempt to connect C & D with the Netflix shows(C & D having a former show-runner from Daredevil probably helps). Dagger is great, but you really can't help but like and root for Cloak. Tyrone reminds me a lot of myself in some ways as a kid. And if you had told me as a kid reading Cloak and Dagger comics that they would have a TV show some day...

Yeah, I can hardly wait for Daredevil Season 3.

Back when I still posted at CBR I had the thread bookmarked and it was always my first stop, now I only check it if I see it on the front page or if you mention something I should check out.

I am curious what will happen to it if my theories about current-adult Iceman are right. When young Iceman came out, they started a gay Iceman appreciation thread there. When the adult one came out and Bendis & Alonzo said they were the same person, it...I think, got merged into the main thread. And the main thread went from mostly one group of fans posting in it to an almost entirely different group of fans posting in it...

Do they, after the reveal, divide the thread up into two separate threads? Do the old fans come back and take the thread back over and the new ones leave? I think strange days are coming.

He's the deal with Iceman's sexuality and the fan response, and it all boils down to this(I'm gonna leave out the trolls and the haters and stick solely to actual Iceman fans).

Iceman-is-gay fans largely see Iceman as being forced to live a lie through fifty years of stories, by writers and editors who wouldn't let him come out, and who he is now as him finally being who he truly is.

Iceman-is-straight fans largely see Iceman being who he truly is through fifty years of stories, and who he is now, as him being forced by writers and editors to live a lie.

Basically two very similar but fundamentally different Icemen, with two different stories...and largely, despite some overlap, with two rather different groups of fans. Fans who are always...understandably, because of those fundamentally different views of Iceman and his story, going to view and feel very differently about the same things.

Coates seems to want to blame EVERYTHING bad that has and continues to happen to black people, collectively and individually, on white people and white racism.

He argues — although that might be too generous a word; it’s more like assertion shrouded in a haze of lyricism — that all that other black people did to hurt or threaten him was ultimately the product of white racism.

Given how large race hatred looms in the world of Coates, I was surprised to find the worst thing that evidently happened to him directly at the hands of a white person is recounted beginning on page 93 of the 152-page book. Coates took his son to a movie theater on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and when they were leaving and got off the crowded elevator, a white woman pushed his kid and said, “Come on!”

This would anger any parent and Coates got into it with the woman and a white man who came to her defense, pushing the guy in the resulting argument. Coates interprets this incident as essentially the telescoping of hundreds of years of racism down to “this woman pulling rank” and invoking her “right over the body of my son.”

Yeah, maybe. It’s also possible that the woman was a jerk (there are at least a couple of them on the Upper West Side) and would have pushed anyone’s kid.

I've had plenty of encounters like that with people acting like that woman, most people have. How many do you think chalk it up to systemic white racism? I was mugged once by a guy who happened to be black, am I supposed to attribute that to something negative about his race?

It's like people who see a terrorist in every Muslim, or a criminal in every black or brown face. If Coates held those views over any other group other than white people, he'd be branded a bigot. What's hilarious is the people who seem to eat up his books, who hire him to write for the Atlantic and Marvel, are white liberals.

The same people who, if he were not a liberal activist and darling, would normally not hire him because of the color of his skin. Marvel's hiring increasingly seems to revolve largely around hiring far-left straight, white cisgendered men and the occasional woman...and diverse far-left activists that play to their sensibilities.

I'm amazed Marvel manages to produce any good comics at all since that seems to be their last priority when hiring someone.

I'm usually pretty much the same on ignoring all the stupid shit. But Coates is a much-heralded literary artist, and his comments come in much-heralded books and major articles at leading magazine publishers...not some random twitter rants. By his own admission he'd become the 'face' of the Atlantic before leaving.

I'm one of the fans that boycotts Coates because of comments he's made regarding the police and firefighters who died on 911. I'm generally not one for boycotts but I have a lot of family and friends who proudly serve as members of the police, firefighters, rescue squad and our nation's military. In my opinion Coats also holds very racist views towards white people in general, clearly espoused in his book 'Between the World and Me'.

I finally cancelled my subscription to the Atlantic over Coates(I know he's now leaving it, but I'm still not going back). I know Coats says he won't put his words in Captain America's mouth and will keep his feeling about a lot of things out of the book, which is good. Doesn't change the fact I will not buy any comic he writes, I don't care how good it is.

At the trade deadline, we faced an honest challenge of sticking with the roster and believing play would improve, or making moves for the future. We gambled at the deadline, I admit it. We believed that the talent was still there, and that we would just need inspired play and a few lucky breaks. The decision then was driven by heart and our desire to give this team every opportunity to turn the season around. We believed we were a few wins and a few breaks away from making a turn in the season, a few games from making a run for the top.

When something isn’t working, you evaluate the situation and take the necessary steps to improve it. You don’t just stand by, cross your fingers, and hope for the best. Unfortunately, in this case, that means making very tough decisions about our roster.

I believed in this team, and would have loved to see them all play healthy together this season. However, the time has come for us to make decisions that will bolster our roster for next season and beyond. This is about giving us some roster flexibility, giving us the opportunity to see some of our young talent, and seeing if we can still find a combination or two that could spark a difference.

These are incredibly tough decisions for us to make. We see the players on this team as part of our family.

Daniel’s performance since joining our club has been phenomenal. On a personal note, Daniel is one of my all-time favorite Nationals. I love the way he played the game and his enthusiasm is contagious. Arguably the top free agent signing of the 2015 offseason, Murphy represented our team in the 2016 and 2017 All-Star Games, took home two Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger awards (2016, 2017) and finished second in the 2016 National League Most Valuable Player voting.

Matt Adams was such a great addition to our team this year. He was a solid contributor, providing value off the bench as well as the starting lineup wherever needed. Matt is the consummate professional and we wish him the best in St. Louis.

We know that this is not easy for our fans — to see a player that you have been rooting for day in and day out suddenly shipped off to another team. But — at the end of the day — we have to do what is best for the overall health and well-being of the ball club.

The good news is this is not a rebuilding effort. We have a lot of talent on our roster — from seasoned veterans to enthusiastic young guys. And Mike Rizzo and his team will be busy during the offseason making sure we have all of the pieces necessary to come back and be competitive next year.

Most importantly — our goal has not changed — we want to bring a World Series trophy home to Washington, D.C. I truly believe the actions we are taking now will strengthen the franchise and keep us in the position of being a perennial contender.

This is disgusting.

Adams was solid and I would have chucked several players before I got rid of Murphy.

Half the team has been sidelined with injuries, including many of the top players.

Pitching has been a mess, some due to injuries others due to just not playing well for whatever reason.

A recent losing streak against the worst playing teams in baseball has turned in to resurrection tour, as the Nats brought dead teams back to life. Moral is a mess. Players feared being traded.

Adams and Murphy were not part of the problem, and trading them isn't going to solve it, quite the opposite.

I agree Uncanny's first issue is high priced. It's twice the cost of a regular issue, but it's also more than twice the length.

If it's price was just jacked up because it's a number one, I'd pass. It's also replacing X-Men Gold and X-Men Blue for me on my monthly pull, which makes it a little easier. That being said, I will decide if I am going to continue getting it based off of those first three issues, so it's a hard pass/fail for me. It's my big hope that Uncanny X-Men is the next big step, following Extermination, to getting the X-line and the X-Characters back on track. If it fails at that I may just give up on X-Men comics in disgust for the foreseeable future.

I really wanted to see how Old Man Logan's story finished out, but 12 issues of 'Dead Man Logan' is a hard pass for me.
