I'm a bit of a science geek, but I generally just let that stuff go. Yeah, nanites should be able to rebuild parts of Stark's suit if it is damaged but not compress the whole damn thing into that small chest-plate unit. And if they could, I don't care how light in weight the suit is, it should still be so heavy there that it would make him fall over.

It's in the same universe where Pym particles allow people to shrink to microscopic size. Where you have anti-gravity and faster-than-light travel. Where magic is REAL. Where Thor is REAL. Where gamma radiation creates Hulks instead of cancer. I don't look at it too closely because it's not our world, the rules for it are different.



I bought into fat-Thor because in just the past few years Thor had the love of his life dump him, he lost his mom, his dad, his brother, his best friend, his other friends, his home/city/country. He'd managed to save a remnant of his people, only to see half of them killed by Thanos. He'd had his Hammer destroyed and the weapon he replaced it with did kill the bad guy... after it was too late to do any good. He'd failed at everything and lost everything. He couldn't deal with that as Thor, so he just... stopped... being Thor. Retreated to a simple life of gluttony where all he cared about anymore was booze and food, because he was afraid to even act like he cared about anything else for fear of failing it or losing it.



My one real significant gripe with the film is the girl-power scene in the big battle at the end, where all the female heroes decided simultaneously to help Captain Marvel get the Gauntlet across the field, while all the male heroes decided to sit it out, and all those decisions were apparently made solely because of gender.

It's like in the Thor comic when Titania refused to fight female-Thor out of respect for her being a woman, despite the fact Titania has had huge brawls with countless female heroes over the years, especially She-Hulk. She-hulk's a girl. She also a female version of a previously existing male hero, so why not refuse to fight her? It was a girl-power scene that flew in the face of reality and damaged both characters and really started people mocking female Thor.

To me, that scene in the film... it would be like watching a war movie set in the real world. Marines, male and female... fighting, winning, losing, sacrificing, dieing... for three hours. And in the middle of the climatic battle scene, a female Marine that often gets treated like a mascot for female marines... simply by her presence had all the other female Marines from all over the field of battle stop what they were doing and rush to the mascot's side for a war corespondent to take a picture for a little propaganda to inspire the girls back home... while the guys just sat it out.

You take that scene out and it's a great montage of heroes of different genders, races, cultures... even worlds... all pulling together and fighting side-by-side. And then you have that scene that treats the female heroes as a different class of hero entirely. To me it was hokey, false, and if I took it as something real, actually damaging to the characters involved. It completely snapped me out of my immersion in the film at a key moment and it took me several minutes to even get back into it. It would have been like if Stan Lee had had a cameo inserted there. That really wasn't the place or time in the film for something reality-breaking.

It's also not only confirmed people's worst fears of how Captain Marvel would be depicted and treated differently than a male hero would solely because she is a girl, but it also showed how she will continue to get realty-breaking scenes, probably at pivotal moments, that will warp not only herself but other characters as well.

After seeing her solo film, I felt a lot of people's worst fears about how the character would be depicted ended up largely unfounded. There was some of it, but it didn't go too far. It seemed like they were largely avoiding the mistakes made with the comics, and while there was a bunch of woke nonsense said by Bree Larson in interviews, it didn't seem like too much of it negatively impacted the actual final product of the film. Endgame went completely over the top with it in that scene and put me off the character the same way that stuff in the comics put me off the character(and other characters depicted that way), a character I had previously been a fan of for a couple of decades. After that scene, I'm just glad CM wasn't in Endgame more.

There were so many great little touches like that cameo. Several times I would think I'd seen a mistake and then remembered something else that negated it. Like when old-Cap shows up at the end with his shield for Falcon. I was like... his shield was destroyed by Thanos, and... it's not like Stark was around to make him another one. The whole point of taking the Infinity stones and Thor's hammer back in time and replacing them was to prevent the timeline from diverging and creating an alternate reality. Looking around the internet, most people seem to think that future-Cap went back and took past-Cap's shield in the past, creating an alternate timeline, and then after aging into an old man in that alternate reality, returned with it to the main-present. That can't be right, if for no other reason than it flies in the face of how time travel was explained to work in the film. The whole point is Cap went back to the past and aged into the present, while his original self did the same things he did all along in the movies before going back to the past. An unbroken, unaltered(at least significantly) timeline.

Then I remembered that scene earlier in the movie when Stark brought a replacement shield to Cap and makes the comment about how he couldn't just keep on making replacements for him. That should have been the first replacement. Then I realized that after Cap went back in time putting everything(Stones, Hammer) back where and when it came from, either he got Stark to make him another shield in the recent past, with Stark not knowing it was actually future-Cap he was making it for, or... he took past-Caps shield and Stark had to make past-Cap a replacement. I consider that less likely as if he simply took past-Cap's shield, past-Cap would have kept looking for it not simply replaced it. It was made out of vibranium, Stark could have located it with sensors probably anywhere on the planet.

The attention to every detail in the film is incredible.

I can answer that one. It's Harley, the kid from Iron Man 3 that helped out Tony in that garage. It's the same actor, Ty Simpkins.

I never really cared for Ant-Man from reading the comics, but the movies made me a fan.

So, I am finally caught up on the previous films and am on-track to see Avengers: Endgame today/tomorrow. Whew! I've had a very busy week and trying to find any time to watch movies has not been easy. It's strange, I was sooo into the MCU films when they started, I saw all of the Phase One and Phase Two films, most of them in theaters. Then things turned to crap with the comics and so many of the characters I like/love that I just started to hate anything Marvel.

I saw Captain America: Civil War on the big screen, but waited for Doctor Strange on Blu-Ray, and then... I just stopped. It was hard to get excited about my favorites being brought to life from the comics when the comics that gave then birth were turning to crap. I lost hope and figured the films would eventually follow the comic's decent and I was probably well out of it. I dropped Marvel's Netflix shows and TV's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., too.

Then I started to realize that at least some of the stuff that had appeared to have gone wrong with the comics maybe wasn't what everyone thought it was. My anti-Marvel stance softened. I was just dipping my toe back into live-action Marvel with the Netflix stuff(with an eye on catching up with the movies next) when they all got cancelled. Took the wind out of my sails, as it were.

I was on the fence with going to see Avengers: Endgame in theaters since I felt I had missed some key stuff from recent MCU films, but I was hearing so much good stuff regarding it, especially from the people posting here(whose opinions I give more weight to than most) that I decided I was going to give it a go. But if I did I was going to see it as I would have originally had I not bailed on so much Marvel.

I have to say the past week catching up on the movies I missed has felt like a reunion with old friends. Looking forward to the Endgame.

I've had that experience with Anime. There is some Anime I dearly love, and others that I watch it for five minutes and even if I'm liking the story, I'm like... I CAN"T watch this. Chibi-style especially, also known as 'super deformed'. I don't mind it so much if it's for an emotional reaction, or a comedic bit, they do that with My Hero Academia all the time, but when the whole show is like it is just too much for me.



I try to support my 'local' shop with what I get, too, even though 'local' for me means it's in a city that's a substantial drive away. I've been a subscriber there for about 25 years, and was an occasional customer there before that. I worry with what's happening in the industry and so many stores closing that it's going to go away at some point. They've used gaming to help stay afloat for a long time, and now that's fallen off and they are consciously moving away from that to Manga and even prose books. That would have been suicide a few years back, but with most of the major bookstores going under or closing lots of stores it might work out.
