You know, if Marvel is actually sitting on an issue (Uncanny X-Men #600) that will 'make things all better' for fans, why keep sitting on an issue that should have come out in May until October, and tell a story set in the old Marvel Universe after that universe has supposedly died? Why drag this out five months? Why have concerns about this negatively impact Secret Wars? What company in their right mind(I realize suggesting Marvel or DC as companies are ever in their right minds is a ridiculous concept to begin with) is going to spend months dealing with negative reactions and a PR nightmare if they have a fix for it just sitting on a shelf, unless what is sitting on that shelf is just going to make things worse?
I would be shocked if Marvel gave adult Iceman that noble or relevant of an ending. I sadly expect straight, adult Iceman will simply cease to exist after Secret Wars, and be completely replaced by his gay, teen version. People may not even remember that the adult version ever even existed. As much as Marvel has claimed going in thatMarvel Crisis Secret Wars was NOT going to turn into a 'New 52' DC-style reboot/retcon train-wreck that has become known derisively as Nu52(or DC's current 'Convergence' crossover that is by most accounts a disaster); the idea that Marvel is apparently actually labeling it's post-Secret-Wars-universe the similarly-named 'New MU' is mind-boggling.
The only things I'm reading out of 'Secret Wars' is the main Secret Wars mini, Age of Apocalypse and X-Men '92(I ordered one issue of Inferno to check it out). Post-Secret-Wars, I'm going to be tentative and leery of Marvel's offerings until I see evidence they are not part of some rebooted/retconned clusterf*ck.
Oh, and as a side-note: I'm reading more of Valiant comics' superhero titles. I really liked Valiant in the 90's and am gravitating back to them now that they have returned to publishing and with good sales seem to be sticking around. You might want to check out Bloodshot Reborn #1. It's written by by Jeff Lemire with art by Mico Suayan. Here's a link to a preview of the first issue with variant covers and unlettered art. valiantuniverse.com/2015/01/13/first-look-bloodshot-reborn-1-inside-the-new-ongoing-series-from-jeff-lemire-mico-suayan/ You can't tell it from the unlettered preview, but the writing on that first issue is a good as the art. To me, it's like Wolverine back when the Wolverine title was really good, should have appeal for people who like Wolverine/Punisher/Cable. The four-issue mini-series 'The Valiant' also sets up the storyline in Bloostshot Reborn(but you don't need to read it to understand the BR series) and gives a good overview of the Valiant Universe in general.
I have this unsettling feeling that adult Bobby is going to sacrifice himself to save Teen Bobby in Secret Wars.
