Bendis intended this as a positive move for LGBT representation, not as a personal attack on Iceman fans, and treating it as a personal attack is both silly and, truthfully, pretty hetero-centric. I mean, it's a story about a character coming out of the closet, and all you can think about is how it affects you? You don't see any problem with that? Not everything is about straight people, you know.
If Bendis is doing this to represent the LGBT community, he could have created a brand new character, not screw with an existing one that's been around before most of us fan have even been born... Look, I don't have any issues with anyone that's in the LGBT community, nor am I homophobic. My thing is that I don't like situations or changes forced upon characters that didn't have any prior history of the "new" behavior a writer gives that character.
What makes this even more worse than what it is, is the concept behind this revelation. Jean had no business prying into Bobby's thoughts in the first place. And even so, who is she to force it upon him to tell him that he is gay. The entire scene played out as if she made it a point to make him gay, or force him to come to terms with it rather than any kind of gentle nudge or passive questions about his sexuality... "You're gay, and that's that. You can sort it out with your older straight self some other time"... Well, maybe not so much in those words, but the entire scene did come off that way.
