Scott Lobdell - Gambit fans have a love/dislike with his writing but for me he was alright. I think I read somewhere he wanted to kill off Gambit and office wouldn't let him Steve Seagle left him to die in Antarctica (UXM #350). Nicieza is hit or miss with me but overall, pretty good. I'll always be an Asmus fan. Kelly T and T Howard I dislike with a passion for Gambit. Who was that silly writer of Iceman solo, the one who couldn't shout loud enough of sexuality. That was annoying, write a story.
I went hardcore and donated or sold almost all of my comics. Not an easy thing but wanted my hobby room back. I still have books but I have been very picky, of course Gambit but I kept an Iceman mini and a few CrossGen stuff.
RE: Avengers. I had no clue that Iceman turned them down twice. Wow. I have to think on it but in general good for him or the writing team.
As for suggestions for this forum, I do not have anything - I don't even run my forum to the best it could be but ... due to Xmen '97, and the new Uncanny X-Men with Gail Simon upcoming (fall 2024), its gotten activity. And to think AO3 wanted the site and I would have lost the forum. Watching the activity, good to just let things ride (patience is a virtue). LOL. CBR is still a/an ... (whatever word).
Nostalgia: Gambit and Wolverine with a cross-over with Batman and Robin - G and W stole the Batmobile. I loved it.

I believe it was Purplevit who debunked some people's claims that Lobdell wanted to kill Gambit or leave him in Antarctica a few years back. Lobdell had planned that Gambit would return with the X-Men and then deal with the aftermath of his Trial, Steve Seagle changed that to leaving him stranded in Antarctica. Steve Seagle did not like Gambit. In his own words: "I was constantly having to do stuff with Gambit who I did not like at all because I’m from the south and nothing about him ever struck me as being southern even though he’s supposed to be from Louisiana."
I'm southern as well(from Virginia), and I know plenty of people from the south that come off far less southern than Remy. There is a difference between being just southern and being more rural. Gambit's more of a city cat than a country cat.
The Iceman writer you are referring to is Sina Grace. Bad as he often was, it turns out he was the high water mark for Iceman solo writing in recent years. He was followed by writer/artist Luciano Vecchio and later Steve Orlando, whom I had heard good things about from his writing on Midnighter at DC but nope, just as bad. The art on his run was the only real good thing. I may shoot you a DM/PM here in a little bit with some links.
I've mostly stopped getting new comics except something sporadic. I have contemplated unloading but haven't gotten there yet.
I'm really glad you kept the GG forum and I'm loving all the recent activity there. I don't post there a lot, but I read it regularly.
I was just discussing that DC/Marvel crossover the other day at CBR, great stuff! It had a lot of heart for a crossover story.
