I'm not sure that matters at the end of the day. I'm not a fan of the current NC series but it is doing better than 05 Cyclops series but its still getting the can over Tyke. I can recall other better selling books getting the can as well. Though, I guess with 05 Scott you can argue its because its going to tie in to an upcoming event. I could also see the event tie in as an encouraging push for the book that the others solos didnt get. Ive seen very little promotion for certain books over books that are written by Bendis. Ive heard at comic stores that if it wasnt for online they wouldnt know about Storm, Nightcrawler and Cyclops at all but they got plenty of promotion for Bendis books. Fans shouldnt have to pick up the slack for their lack of promoting or building up their own products.
I agree fans have partial responsibility here but Marvel has, as admitted by people who have worked there more recently, pretty non existent advertising for many books. I dont think the huge restrictions placed on creators help any either. It seems there are only a few writers who have the pull to use the resources that make a book profitable. Re: Claremont wanted the NC book to have a more relevant and modern spin but many of his ideas were shot down in favor of other writers. Instead Kurt was forced back into the same old cliches and roles. Storm has been regressed into a noob instead of being advanced forward. Im not saying you are wrong but there seems to be more factors involved in why Marvel sales are doing so poorly than simply fans need to buy more. The product is failing on the whole. Even the "Higher Selling" books. I think the constant raising of prices and the lessening of accessibility plays a lot into it. It is a niche market now. And an expensive one.
