The "Ongoing" Plight

You are hanging on to words for far too long for no real reason that goes nowhere for the sake of a debate. They don't want my money comment is my way of expressing my dissatisfaction with their books. I don't need to quantify or qualify it. And for the third time, I've addressed the meaning. There is no one here to influence.

Not going to debate which books they keep or not, I get the profit margin stuff but that also goes back to Marvel. They push certain books and not others. If a book fails, it really was on them and their business model. And they keep books that fail yet cancel others. That is the issue. Cancel them all if the 20k mark is the determining factor. Picking and choosing favorites is my issue.




What does it matter if I don’t want to try a story or invest in characters I don’t care about. I’m not a fan of Marvel, and I don’t have to be. They are a publisher, that is it. They are a conduit for a character that I am a fan of. You read what you want to read, I'll read what I want to read.  It's a hobby, not a cult.

Repeating myself yet again - So what if its on me. Marvel is a publisher. I don’t follow writers or artists. Doesn’t mean if at con I wouldn’t commission art or talk to a writer. There are plenty of people who don’t buy books at all and opine away all the time.

It’s Marvel’s job to get me interested in their product with solicits and creative teams but more specifically with concept and characters I like. That’s their job. It's their job to market, promote and entice readers.  Yes, it is all on them. They need to compete for my attention and not just mine, their audience in general. I can spend my disposable income on other things.

#1s, variants and relaunches hurt the second tier books.  And again, if the audience isn't there, then cancel them all that don't make the 20k mark. All of them. 

Again, if you love their stuff, good for you.

Except a low-cost book with sales under 20 000 can still be profitable, while a high-cost book at 25 000 might not be. There is no specific number at which any book gets cancelled - every single comic has its own number, because every single comic has its own cost to make. Setting a single cut-off line that applies to every book isn't at all fair or reasonable.

It's worth noting that a passionate fanbase can also make a huge difference. Captain Marvel's sales were low, but it had an incredibly devoted audience - the Carol Corps. That sort of passion helps a book's chances tremendously. So does critical acclaim. Some books have neither a passionate fanbase nor any particular critical acclaim. Those books have less chance of being "rescued" from the cancellation point.
