Issue 8 was a disappointment for me. The good: The reunion between Kurt and Colossus, though I could have done without them hanging a lantern on how common death and resurrection has become with the X-Men. Marvel needs to find a better way to write characters out of the books for a while other than killing them; it not only diminishes the impact of their 'death', it makes the whole thing a little ludicrous after a point. Also good: the art.
The bad: Too much focus on Wolverine. I also didn't care for how Iceman was written, or Storm for that matter. It looked like they were trying to force humor at times at the expense of the characters. Iceman came off like an idiot, Storm came off like a jerk in multiple scenes. I had several logic problems with the issue, but the biggest had to be when Heather fled a foe confined to the ground by flying low through the trees instead of just taking to the skies. What's next, she flies low over the ocean to get away from Attuma? At this point the only thing I am looking forward to in future issues is the art.
As for the Annual? Not bad. Storm was very much the 'Weather Goddess' throughout much of the issue. I've never particularly cared for that depiction of Storm as so much otherworldly, it reminds me too much of her X-Men TAS caricaturization. I'm hoping her ongoing is written differently.
The lettered previews being the entirety of their role in the book really ticked me off. And yes I agree with the forced humour like DRogue said Storm was turned into Emma Frost in this issue also wtf was up with Storm just welcoming Piotr back and acting like nothing happened for the past few years? You know they only made Heather fly in the woods to make Wolverine look useful.
My problem with Iceman's dialogue is he said he's afraid of Logan killing him, seriously KYost? Iceman can never die! Whilst the annual could have been written better by keeping Meruda alive for the solo or being more creative with Storm's powers in ending him it was still a good read and hopefully Pak will write her differently to Nero.
Lol, all my fears? I didnt get a chance to read it all yet but I heard there was cannibalism already, Iceman is already their for comic relief only, Storm is being turned into Emma Frost and Wolverine getting more of a role than Northstar who was an actual serving member and not just one in flashbacks like Logan. I fear for Iceman as they wanted to kill him in SC but Carey saved him. People are saying this is better than Aarons silliness but under K/Y they acting more silly than under Aaron. At least he didnt make a fool out of anyone in Amazing - it wasn't like WatX.
I felt it odd that Storm would say this to Bobby, they actually had a good repor since the Lobdell days. It sounds like the snark was upped for the sake of drama. I mean all the X-Men were apart of a recent victory in which Bobby had a big role in. Nobody should have had their credibility questioned. Is this how they are going to modernize her?
Also, why does Kurt point out Piotr being a terrorist and Cyclops killing Xavier but says nothing about what Logan has done? It kinda makes him look like a biased jerk. I mean he reunited with the others without snark but Piotr gets snark.
Dont get me started on the NMH graphic novel, all Kurt did was get knocked out and captured the this lame villain just to be be saved by Logan and Scott - used again for their character development. He hardly said anything and got to teleport once. He wasnt even a part of the meeting. Ugh. I rather they had not used him at all. Same old crap.
What is the point of turning this series into idk every other series ever? Does that not defeat the point of it being a different X-Book? I thought this was supposed to be the Classic X-men style book.
Because you know no one is allowed to call Logan on his bullshit if they aren't Cyclops and it's stupid because wouldn't Kurt have seen all the crap Logan has done and as much as I hate Hope Summers I wanted to see Kurt confront Logan about wanting to kill her because that's such a great way to honor your friend who gave his life to save her, I feel like Kurt's death and return means nothing because it's just going to be like "Hey Kurt you're back that's nice now go and be wallpaper"
No More Humans is basically just the Generic X-men story, Scott and Logan dick measuring every other X-men ever being sidelined and the cherry on the cake? Polaris being excluded from Magneto's family reunion and not mentioned at all. So Glad I didn't buy this crap, does Marvel realise that there is more to X-men than just Scott and Logan?
