If you're referencing my actual naming of characters, I can name more. Those were just the three off the top of my head.
But I'm not going to argue anymore with you.
Northstar has "at least been there" for quite a while now. He's been pretty much consistently used in the X-Men for the past decade (at least).
Marvel fails at what they are doing because they CHOOSE NOT TO DO IT RIGHT.
You can argue that all you WANT, but it will remain the way it is.
Sure, they can take the lazy and easy way out by switching around/replacing well known characters. But it's cheap as Hell, and it won't work in the long run.
And, yes, Ms. Marvel is proof that people will give new characters a chance. IF they are done WELL. And effort has been put into the character.
Sweet Jesus. Is it really that hard to believe?
I would disagree that Marvel isn't doing it "right." They've tried all sorts of things. They do it every way possible. It almost never succeeds.
Ms. Marvel is not proof of anything, she's an exception. Marvel got incredibly lucky with her. And even then, she's still a legacy character, which plenty of people argue is a "wrong" way to do it. Marvel could come out with a new Black Knight who's gay, give him a critically-acclaimed creative team, talk about him constantly, and the book would most likely fail. They could give Northstar a solo, and it would bomb.
Marvel has done new characters. They have done them well. They have done the exact things you say they should do. They. Haven't. Worked. You seem to think it's just as simple as telling a good story, but that is bullshit. Tons of fantastic stories featuring compelling characters end up getting absolutely no attention, because most comic fans just want to read the books featuring their favourite characters from 30 years ago. They'll never give a damn about Patriot, because Patriot isn't Captain America. They'll never give a damn about Amadeus Cho, because Amadeus Cho isn't the Hulk. They'll never give a damn a new lesbian character in power armour, because she's not Iron Man.
Just because one new character catches on - and I would point out that Ms. Marvel's only been around for a year, so we don't know yet if anyone will still care about her in 5 years - doesn't prove that people care about new characters. It proves only that people care about this specific character. Who has the benefit of being a legacy character.
